Blast At OMFED’s Chilling Plant Leaves 3 Critical

At least three persons sustained critical injuries in an explosion at a milk chilling plant of OMFED (Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation) at Koksara in Kalahandi district on Friday. The blast occurred when three workers were repairing a leakage in the refrigeration compressor pipeline of the chilling plant. The leakage was found in the refrigeration pipeline a few days back and three workers were called in from Cuttack and Bolangir to repair it. The trio was welding the pipeline when the blast occurred. “We were welding the pipeline to repair the leakage when suddenly the blast occurred,” said one of the injured workers. All the injured have been admitted to Bhawanipatna hospital.

Vigilance Arrests 2 Engineers For Accepting Rs 1 Lakh Bribe

An assistant engineer and a junior engineer of Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) in Koraput were caught red handed by Odishas anti-corruption Vigilance wing in the Capital City while demanding and accepting Rs one lakh bribe from a contractor to clear dues on Friday.

The accused have been identified as Bharat Nayak and Khirod Behera. The bribe money has been seized by the police. Further investigation into the incident is underway and the accused are being questioned.

4 Bogies Of Goods Train Derail Near Paradip

As many as four bogies of a goods train derailed in front of the main gate of PPL (Paradeep Phosphates Limited) at Paradip late on Friday night. The train was on its way to the plant to collect gypsum from its premises when four bogies of the train went out of the track.

However, the cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained. Effort is on to place the derailed bogies back on the tracks again. An inquiry into the accident is underway. However, railway service has not been hit because of the accident.

Odisha Reports 64 Fatalities, 2,070 Positive Cases Today

Odisha on Friday reported 64 deaths while 2,070 were tested positive for Covid-19, informed the State Health and Family Welfare(H&FW) Department.

With this, the death toll due to the virus in the State surged to 4,925 and the positive tally touched 9,49,929.
The active cases in the State reached 21,742 while 9,23,209 patients have recovered, including 2,563 on Thursday, from the disease so far.
