In what is said to be the biggest detection of disproportionate assets by Odisha Vigilance, the anti corruption agency traced assets worth more than Rs 14 crore belonging to an Odisha government official.
The deposits in several bank accounts of Samal and his family members have been calculated at Rs 1,61,35,812.50 while Rs 57, 72,150 have been paid as insurance premiums. The bank accounts have been frozen by the Vigilance department.
The Deputy Manager of Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation has come under Vigilance scanner following allegations of possession of disproportionate assets. This morning, sleuths of the anti-corruption conducted simultaneous house searches at 10 places associated with Pratap Kumar Samal.
The Vigilance has so far unearthed a total of 22 plots and 3 buildings owned by Samal. He alone has 17 plots and 2 buildings in Bhubaneswar, 5 plots and a building in Balasore.

As many as five teams of the anti-corruption agency led by two DSPs, five Inspectors and other officers conducted the raids on following a search warrant issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.
Senior officials of the anti-corruption unit said that the process for the seizure and attachment of the gold jewellery has already begun. Similarly, steps are also being taken to freeze the bank accounts of Panigrahi and his family members.
The raids were being conducted on the strength of a search warrant issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance in Sambalpur, said reports.
In another case, Narottam Behera was intercepted near Tangi Check Gate in Cuttack while he was going to Bhubaneswar from Balasore in a car. The Vigilance team conducted a raid and recovered a total of Rs 89,290 unaccounted cash.

The Anganwadi worker, who had come under the vigilance scanner on Tuesday (Sept 14) for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to her income, was arrested by Vigilance officials on Wednesday (Sept 15).
Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday (September 14) conducted raid on the houses and property of an Anganwadi worker from Bhubaneswar following allegations of possession of assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.
Simultaneous searches are being carried out by the officers of the anti-corruption agency at six different properties associated with Mathan. The sleuths have raided Mathan's maternal property in Pattamundai as well as her in-laws' house in Jagatsinghpur's Balikuda.
