The Superintendent Engineer of the Malkangiri Rural Works Division, Ashish Kumar Dash was apprehended by Vigilance department personnel on Friday on charges of amassing property disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Acting on a tip off, a Vigilance team rounded up Dash when he was about to deposit Rs 10,23,970 cash in a bank. The money has been confiscated.

Giving details, the Odisha Vigilance tweeted, “Today at around 2.15 pm Ashish Kumar Dash, Superintending Engineer, Rural Works, Malkangiri has been intercepted at Malkangiri by a team of Odisha Vigilance.”

The swoop was made following receipt of credible information about Dash moving with huge amount of cash, amounting to over Rs 10 lakh, which he had procured through illegal means. During searches the above mentioned amount was found in his possession, the Odisha Vigilance said.

Simultaneous searches at his residential quarters and office at Malkangiri is being conducted by the anti corruption wing personnel.

Pertinent to mention here that Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday handed down compulsory retirement to six more State government officials accused of corruption and inefficiency.

As per the data provided by the Chief Minister’s Office, the total count of officials sent on compulsory retirement has reached 164 so far.
