OUAT assistant professor suspended
Bhubaneswar: An assistant professor of OUAT Basic Science College in Bhubaneswar, who was accused of sexually harassing male students, was suspended yesterday for indulging in malpractice and assaulting students.
However, no primary evidence has been established over the alleged sexual harassment case against accused teacher Pradip Jena, the OUAT vice-chancellor said.
Jena belonging to Chemistry department had been relieved of his duties and asked to go on leave after the issue came to the fore.
The vice-chancellor had formed a departmental committee to conduct an inquiry into the allegation and submit a report within seven days. As per the complaint lodged by victims, he often calls students to his chamber or to his house when he is alone and shows them porn clips from his cell phone and forces them to engage with him in sexual activities. He used to threaten to fail them in examination if they resist.
He also allegedly took snaps of nude students and recorded the acts in his mobile. Fed up with such behaviour, some students had met the university director and later lodged a written complaint in this regard with the vice-chancellor.
