Khordha district has carved out of the former Puri District on 1st April, 1993. Despite repeated onslaughts from Maratha and Muslim cavalry, it managed to maintain the glory of its independence of royal fort till 1803. Therefore, the Royal Fort is spelt with reverence as “Khordhagada” and is referred as the “last independent fort” which remained free from the clutches of East India Company for a long period (from 1757, the Battle of Plassey after which the East India Company established company rule in Bengal till 1803).This resistance movement of Odias was recorded by the British historians as “Paik Rebellion”, which was in fact, the first Independence war of India. It originated in Khordha soil and spread to other parts of Odisha in 1817 much prior to the outbreak of the historical Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.Khordha is famous for Kora khai which is traditional Odia food offered to Lord Lingraj (Shiva) as Prasad.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is also likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.
Nine deaths were reported from Khordha district, including five in Bhubaneswar while five each from Bargarh, Nayagarh and Puri.
With this, the active cases in the State remained at 33,019 while 8,60,142 patients have recovered, including 3,644 on Friday, from the disease so far.
The Covid-19 daily positive count in Odisha dropped below 3,000-mark for the second time in the last four days. However, deaths due to the virus continued unabated in the State.
On Tuesday, the State had recorded 3,671 positive cases and 38 deaths.
There is no relief from the single-day Covid-19 fatalities in Odisha even as the daily positive cases on Tuesday dipped to below 3000-mark, a record low in over last two months.
The single-day Covid-19 fatalities continue to remain above 40 even as the daily case count has been witnessing a dip for last several days in Odisha.
Odisha now has 38,727 active cases, while 8,35,132 people have recovered from the disease so far.
With this, the cumulative positive tally touched 8,73,925 while death toll rise to 3,550 on Saturday.
The Hydrochloric Acid-laden tanker was en route Kolkata in West Bengal from Odisha's Berhampur when at around 8.30 pm the mishap took place, said reports.
Even as the Covid-19 graph continued with its downward trend, there seems to be no let up in the fatalities as 44 more deaths were reported from different parts of Odisha in the last 24 hours.
The daily cases of Covid-19 further dipped in Odisha as the State witnessed 4,852 fresh cases on Saturday. With this, the positive tally in the State surged to 8,47,313, the State I&PR Department informed
