One more accused in Gangapur acid attack case held
Berhampur: Police on Monday arrested another accused in the Gangapur acid attack case of Ganjam district. He was identified as Tophan Sahoo.
Sahoo is an associate of the main accused-Lipun Bisoyee- who was arrested by Badagada police on Sunday.
Police said critically injured Mamuni Bisoyee is undergoing treatment at MKCG medical College and Hospital here. She has sustained about 50 per cent burn injuries on her body including her face, chest and hands.
“Her (Mamuni) statement has been recorded. Two accused were arrested as per the statement of the victim’s mother. Police are investigating the case,” Berhampur sub-collector Laxmikant Sethi said.
At least three persons came on a motor bike to the house of the girl on Saturday night and threw acid on her when her family members were asleep. Police suspected the case as an outcome of love affairs.
Meanwhile mother of the acid attack survivor said the main accused had threatened to end Mamuni’s life if she marries elsewhere. She demanded capital punishment for the accused.
“He (Lipun) should be hanged,” she stated.
