Bhubaneswar girl 'attacked for opposing youths doing drugs'

The family members of a girl allegedly faced the fury of drug addicts in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. The youths, reportedly drug addicts, allegedly stormed into her house, attacked her family members and vandalized a motorcycle on being opposed by the girl.

The incident happened at Salia Sahi under Maitrivihar Police limits in Bhubaneswar late Wednesday night and the entire scene was captured in a CCTV camera. 

A police complaint was filed and one of the accused has been detained.

As per the complaint, the girl was returning home to Salia Sahi from her office. She spotted a group of six to seven youths taking drugs near her house and found beer bottles and ganja-smoking tools all around. 

As the girl opposed their activities, one of the youths flew into a rage and stormed into her house. Then, he attacked her family members and ransacked her house before damaging a bike with a sword. 

The girl said, "They were taking brown sugar and we opposed it. That is the reason for the attack. When we opposed, they threatened us.”

A family member of the victim said, “These drug addicts used to threaten us on petty issues. We don’t argue with them. They are always high on drugs. Drug peddling is done here. We oppose them because they utter obscenities after taking drugs till late night.”
