The District of Angul situated at the heart of Odisha was a part of Undivided Dhenkanal District till early March 1993. Angul District came into existence as a separate District on April 1, 1993. It is one of the major industrial towns in Western Odisha. This sleepy quaint vicinity transformed itself largely due to the presence of NALCO (National Aluminum Company) – that operates Asia’s largest Aluminum plant there and ancillary industries. Angul serves as an important junction or gateway to Central & Western Odisha. Anugul is also famous for the Satkosia Tiger reserve.

With this, the Covid-19 positive tally in the State has surged to 10,91,547 while a total of 10,47,783 people have recovered from the virus infection. The active cases have gone up to 35,242.
With the fresh cases, the total number of Omicron infection has reached 103 in the State.
The association alleged that due to the bad road condition in the route from Cuttack via Angul to Sambalpur, their vehicles get damaged and it forces them to shell out a huge sum towards maintenance on regular basis.
“People are afraid of travelling on the route due to the poor condition of road and dust. Besides, drivers find it difficult to drive because of the large potholes that damage the buses. If the government fails to take notice of this strike, we will intensify our protest,” said a driver.
