The District of Angul situated at the heart of Odisha was a part of Undivided Dhenkanal District till early March 1993. Angul District came into existence as a separate District on April 1, 1993. It is one of the major industrial towns in Western Odisha. This sleepy quaint vicinity transformed itself largely due to the presence of NALCO (National Aluminum Company) – that operates Asia’s largest Aluminum plant there and ancillary industries. Angul serves as an important junction or gateway to Central & Western Odisha. Anugul is also famous for the Satkosia Tiger reserve.

The trend of steady decline in the number of new Covid-19 cases continues in Odisha with the State reporting 6,118 infections on Monday. However, the death toll due to the contagious virus remained high with 41 fatalities in the last 24 hours.

Extending the ongoing lockdown till June 1, 2021, the Odisha government on Tuesday made stricter arrangements both for the public sector and private sector organisations.
The two-week lockdown enforced in the State on May 5 was set to end on May 19 but after thorough consultation with health experts, the government has extended the lockdown for two more weeks.
