Bhubaneswar: The trend of steady decline in the number of new Covid-19 cases continues in Odisha with the State reporting 6,118 infections on Monday. However, the death toll due to the contagious virus remained high with 41 fatalities in the last 24 hours.

The State has so far recorded 81,9214 confirmed cases while the number of deaths jumped to 3,035 deaths, official sources said.
Of the new infections, 3,453 people tested positive for the virus from quarantine centres while 2,665 caught the infections from local contacts.

In the last 24 hours, 7, 358 people recovered from the disease, taking the cumulative recoveries to 7,39,376.

At present, there are 76, 750 active cases in the State, government sources added.

With 660 fresh cases, Cuttack stood first in the row followed by Jajpur which recorded 563 cases in last 24 hours. Khordha which earlier reported maximum daily cases has now come down to third spot with 495 which is followed by 416 in Angul district.

Puri recorded 398 new cases while Mayurbhanj saw 352 infections and Sundergarh 272. As many as 227 new cases have been detected from Kendrapara district while Bhadrak registered 228 and Jagatasingpur 218 cases.

The districts which recorded double-digit in the single-day spike are Ganjam (93), Gajapati (30) Deogarh (29), Bolangir (83), Jharsuguda (86), Kalahandi (80), Nuapada (36) and Sonepur (52).
