Tension erupted in Angul on Monday after a member of the BJP Mahila Morcha was allegedly attacked by the ruling BJD workers at the Angul District Headquarters Hospital.

As per reports, a local leader of the BJP women’s wing, Sanju Sahu was allegedly attacked by the BJD workers when she had gone to the DHH to meet the bereaved family members of a BJD activist Banita Sahu, who died during a protest by the ruling party in Angul against rising prices in the region.

Banita reportedly fell unconscious during the protest and subsequently, she was admitted to the Angul DHH. However, she was declared brought dead by the doctors.

Later, Sanju rushed to the medical to express her condolences to the bereaved family. However, some members of Biju Yuva Bahini, who were already present there, allegedly attacked the BJP leader.

Protesting the same, BJP workers lodged a complaint about the incident at Angul Police Station.

“Angul police didn’t take any action even after getting our complaint. It’s quite unfortunate that women are increasingly becoming unsafe in the State,” said another local leader of BJP’s women’s wing, Rosalin Das.

On the other hand, the BJD activists also lodged a complaint in the police station against the BJP workers for creating nuisance during their protest rally.

“No BJP worker has been attacked by our party members. Rather, the Opposition members were creating disturbances during our rally. The incident has been fabricated with a political motive and it’s a conspiracy against us,” said BJD leader Sujit Prasad Dwivedi.
