28 New Omicron Cases Detected In Odisha, Mutant Infection Tally Breaches 100-Mark

With the fresh cases, the total number of Omicron infection has reached 103 in the State.

28 New Omicron Cases Detected In Odisha, Mutant Infection Tally Breaches 100-Mark

In a major development, 28 new cases of Omicron have been detected in Odisha as per the data shared by the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar on Monday. 

With the fresh cases, the total number of Omicron infection has reached 103 in the State.

The first case of the new Covid-19 ‘variant of concern’ was reported in December 2021 in Odisha. Two cases of Omicron cases were reported on December 21, 2021. The infected duo had returned from Qatar and Nigeria, respectively.

Earlier, Odisha saw the biggest spike with 24 new Omicron cases from the State. Of the total cases, 7 were from Keonjhar district, 4 from Khordha, 3 each from Puri and Sambalpur, 2 each from Boudh and Angul and 1 each from Jagatsinghpur and Balasore districts.

The Omicron tally in Odisha reached 75 after 14 new Omicron cases were reported on January 8, 2022.

It is pertinent to mention here that Odisha is currently witnessing a steep rise in daily cases of Covid-19 infections. The State reported 4,829 new cases of Covid infections on Monday. It is for the second consecutive day that the daily count of Covid-19 breached the 4500 mark. On Sunday, the State had reported 4714 new Covid-19 cases.
