The tragic incident occurred when Dillip’s bike crashed into a tree near Biswanathpur village under Gondia Police limits when he was rushing back home after hearing about his wife's death.

Sources informed that the lift's door lock was malfunctioning since many days due to which the door opened even though the lift compartment didn't arrive on the floor. 

The accident occurred more than 90 km from Alipurduar Junction.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren condoled the deaths and directed the district administration to ensure proper treatment of the injured persons.

While 3 youths died on spot, 6 others were grievously injured. The injured persons have been rushed to a hospital in Raikia for treatment.

Ampani Police rushed to the spot after getting information and rushed the critically injured driver Sahu to Community Health Centre (CHC) at Kokasara in Kalahandi district. However, Sahu was declared dead by the doctors.

The rising cases of deaths and injuries resulting from road accidents have been a major concern in Odisha. The State registered 4,738 fatalities due to road mishaps in 2020. The same year, around 5,000 suffered injuries, State Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera informed at the State level Road Safety Council meeting on Thursday.

In Odisha, the fatality rate (death per 100 accidents) is 48 compared to the national average of 36, according to the data shared by the State Transport Department.
