Dhenkanal District is centrally located on the Geo-Political map of Odisha. It is commonly believed that it owes its name to a Savara chief named ‘DHENKA’ who formerly ruled over in this tract. Two persons, including a woman were arrested by the Kamakhyanagar Police on Monday for allegedly stealing a nine-month-old child from his parents in Jiridimali village under Kanapura Gram Panchayat in Dhenkanal district.

At least two people were killed while two others suffered critical burn injuries in firecracker explosion mishaps at separate places of Odisha on the occasion of Diwali.
