The officials of Dhenkanal Municipality on Thursday sealed a Plus 2 residential college in Kunjakanta under ward No 2 after 33 students were tested positive for Covid-19.

Moreover, a show-cause notice has also been issued to the concerned authorities of the Residential College for allowing students to vacate the building without following the requisite protocols.

Following the detection of the positive cases, Dhenkanal Collector Saroj Kumar Sethy had earlier declared Kunjakanta area as a containment zone for a period of 10 days from December 1 to December 10. Earlier, 260 samples were sent for tests after some students showed Covid-19 symptoms.

“Despite instructions, the students have left the hostel. The owner informed that the students went with their concerned guardians after submitting undertakings to keep their wards in isolation,” said Atanu Samant, Executive Officer, Dhenkanal Municipality.

According to Samant, the College authorities have submitted the list of the 33 student, who have been tested positive for Covid-19. The list will be shared with the concerned officials to ensure that all Covid positive cases follow isolation and other safety protocols, he said.

“As the students were allowed to leave the campus without notifying the matter to us, we will take appropriate action in this regard,” Samant added.
