At least two people were killed while two others suffered critical burn injuries in firecracker explosion mishaps at separate places of Odisha on the occasion of Diwali.

A bag full of firecrackers exploded while being carried by three youths on a motorcycle in Dhenkanal district today evening. Reports said the trio was carrying the crackers after buying them from Barada village under Sadar police limits when they burst causing the mishap.

The deceased identified as Maheswar Maharana, was a native of Barada village while the other two injured Biren Nayak and Prasanna Brahma who are his fellow villagers have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital.

Even though the exact circumstances of the occurrence of the mishap are still not clear, it is believed that the crackers exploded accidentally.

In a separate incident, a man was also killed in an explosion while preparing firecracker at his home in Juidaspur village in Kendrapara district. A customer who had come to buy crackers from the seller was also injured in the mishap, said sources.
