Police on Tuesday detained a couple in connection with alleged theft of a newborn baby girl. The infant was allegedly stolen from the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of SCB Medical College and Hospital on Monday.
A woman from Chandanpur in Puri had given birth to twins at the premier government hospital. But one of the twins developed jaundice after which the baby was shifted to SNCU for treatment from where it is said to have been stolen
Two persons, including a woman were arrested by the Kamakhyanagar Police on Monday for allegedly stealing a nine-month-old child from his parents in Jiridimali village under Kanapura Gram Panchayat in Dhenkanal district.
Later on Sunday (November 21), the police rescued the baby girl who was found abandoned by the side of a road. The police suspected the involvement of a close relative in the abduction plot and had intensified the probe by summoning them for questioning.
