Mayurbhanj: Amid a flurry of child theft reports of late, another such case triggered violent outrage in Mayurbhanj district after 3 persons who stole a child were apprehended by the locals and beaten black and blue.

The incident was reported from Gangaraj village under Kuliana police limits in the district.

Sources said, local residents caught the three accused identified as Debasish Kara, Suman Roy and Hiralal Rajghor while trying to steal four-year-old son of Sukru Dehury, a local and detained them. Later they tied and beat them up.

“When they tried to pick my son up, he woke from his sleep and somehow managed to slip away from them,” Sukru’s wife told media persons.

On getting information police rescued the 3 accused, who are residents of West Bengal and are reportedly working as contract labourers for a local construction company.

“We have rescued the three accused and have registered an abduction case in this connection. From preliminary enquiry it is clear that their intention were not good so we have started investigation,” Abhimanyu Nayak, SDPO Baripada said.
