A special team has been formed to nab the absconding miscreants involved in the loot of an ATM cash van near Athgarh yesterday, Inspector General of Police(IGP), Central Range, Narasingha Bhol said on Tuesday.

Speaking to media, Bhola said, "We suspect the absconding accused involved in the ATM cash van loot case are from Nayagarh. A special team has been formed to arrest them."

"Many criminal cases including robbery, dacoity and attempt to murder had been registered against the three accused who were arrested yesterday. The arrested criminals were involved in different crimes in Cuttack urban district, Bhubaneswar urban district and Jagatisinghpur," Bhol added. 

Of the three arrested accused, one belong to Athagarh, another hails from Niali while the third miscreant is from Boudh district, the top police officer informed.

Notably, the Dhenkanal Sadar Police nabbed the three robbers at Bhojadeipur near Sadashivpur in the district while they were on the run after looting an ATM cash van near Athgarh on Monday.

The Police also recovered Rs 1.05 crore cash from them. 

As per reports, Rs 1.29 crore had been loaded into the cash van at the Ankula branch of the State Bank of India in Athgarh on Monday morning. The cash was to be filled in dispensing machines at various ATMs in the locality. The miscreants allegedly targeted the van while it was on its way to fill cash at the third ATM in Tigiria after filling two ATMs in the town.

The miscreants hijacked the cash van and fled after assaulting the security guard and a bank staff accompanying the cash. After driving towards Dhenkanal, they abandoned the van in a deserted place and decamped with the cash.
