Application for admission in IISER, Berhampur from May 25

Berhampur: The Union Human Resource Development (HRD) has come up with a notification for admission in the Bachelor and Masters (BS-MS) dual degree programme in seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) in the country including Berhampur in Odisha.

As per the notification, students seeking admission to the above programme can apply from May 25. The last date of application is June 12 while the entrance test would be held on July 3.

Students who have qualified Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) and Joint Entrance Examination of Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT–JEE) channel and State and Central Boards Channel (SCB) will be eligible for taking admission.

Besides, students passing (10+2) examination in the current year (2016) and the previous year (2015) are eligible for taking admission while Indian nationals and students belonging to PIO (Person of Indian Origin) or OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) category are eligible to apply provided they satisfy the KVPY, IIT-JEE and SCB eligibility criteria.

BS-MS is a five year dual degree program for bright and motivated science students who have passed class XII. The program integrates classroom learning with research and provides ample scope for multidisciplinary interactions. The first two years of the program consist of core courses in basic sciences and the third and fourth years are dedicated to specialization in chosen science subjects while the fifth year includes a research project.

The training during the program enables students to pursue a career in academia, R&D institutes and science based industries.

Meanwhile, the Forum for Ganjam has welcomed the decision of the HRD ministry for admission in the IISER, Berhampur where the classes will commence from the next academic session.

Since the institute has no campus of its own, the classes would commence in its temporary campus as announced by the Centre and the state government earlier.
