Bhubaneswar: Four years after the gang rape of a girl student in Pipili, the Justice Pradumnya Kumar Mohanty Commission submitted its 400-page report on the much talked about case to the Home Secretary Asit Tripathy on Wednesday.
Sources said as per its terms of reference, the Mohanty Commission looked into possible medical negligence towards the victim and police inaction.
The report holds some influential people responsible for the death of the girl student, the sources said adding the Commission also looked into whether any politician tried to save the accused.
Nishikant Mishra, the counsel for the victim, said, “Both the defense and the victim’s side presented their versions before the Commission. We expect the Commission must have taken into account everything in its 400-page report.”
Notably, the State was shell shocked on November 29, 2011, when the rape case came to the fore. After much hue and cry, the State government constituted a commission led by the retired High Court Judge Justice Mohanty to probe the matter on January 13, 2011. The commission was asked to submit a report within three months. However, the Commission was granted several extensions before it completed the probe.
During the probe, more than 100 affidavits were filed. Similarly, in the course of 100 hearings, 70 witnesses recorded their statements before the Commission.
