Nabarangpur: Normal life came to a standstill in eight KBK districts due to a dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the Congress demanding land pattas for the tribals under the Forest Rights Act and protesting against the arrest of former Congress MP Pradip Majhi, who got bail on Friday.
Members of the party blocked roads at many places bringing vehicular movement to a grinding halt in the district. The agitating members were also seen picketing in many places in the eight districts- Kalahandi, Balangir, Koraput, Sonepur, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Rayagada.
However, emergency services and educational institutions were spared from the purview of the shutdown.
The Congress has requested the people of the eight districts to make the bandh a successful one.
Adequate security arrangements have been made in these districts to avoid any untoward situation.
