The Assistant Collector’s body was found under mysterious circumstances in the pond of the Centurion Park under Plant Site Police limits in Rourkela on September 19 evening.

The victim had also broadcasted a live video on Instagram while attempting to commit suicide.

The deceased, Priyam Singh (17), was a resident of Mau in Uttar Pradesh. She was in Kota for the last one-and-a-half years to prepare for NEET-UG.

With her death, Kumudini’s entire family has been wiped out within a week as her husband had died on September 6. 

In 2021, a total of 5,651 people died by suicide in Odisha.

Bansidhar Sahu and his sister Subarna Mahajan died after they allegedly consumed poison. The third member of the family, their mother Kumudini Sahu, who was also part of the suspected suicide pact, is now battling for her life at Sohela Community Health Centre (CHC).  

While the family members were taking Samarendra to a nearby hospital, they got the news of Sunita’s death due to electrocution.

While the reason behind the death is yet to be ascertained, police stopped cremation of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. 

The disappeared SI's father Managovinda Bag on Saturday came forward and said that she is fit and fine and presently staying with the family members. 

What has made the matter more mysterious is that the police are keeping mum on the female sub-inspector's whereabouts.

The family members of Daityaraj Nayak demanded the arrest of his murderers. Nayak, a native of Chandrasekharpur area in Bhubaneswar, was allegedly killed in 2022.  

Female sub-inspector (SI) Kajal Bag is currently undergoing treatment at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in the district. 

The victim, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack, has accused the wife of a police officer of DIG rank inflicting so much torture on her that she even attempted to end her life and in the process, lost her two legs. 

According to relatives and local residents, the family was living happily as they didn’t have any financial problems. 

The Excise department will conduct surprise raids at all the bars in Bhubaneswar. For this, the department has formed a special squad.
