Police at the crime scene
Police on Monday recovered the bodies of a woman and her son from a closed room at Anuguliapada in Sambalpur town.
The deceased have been identified as Jyotsnarani Das and her son Sudhir Panda.
According to sources, Jyotsnarani used to live with her son, daughter-in-law and two-year-old granddaughter. For some days, Jyotsnarani and her son were living in the house as her daughter-in-law and granddaughter were away in her parents’ house.
According to relatives and local residents, the family was living happily as they didn’t have any financial problems.
However, it is said that Jyotsnarani had been under depression for some days over the mysterious death of her younger son.
Today morning, the neighbours could detect a foul smell emanating from the house. They immediately informed the police. A team from Ainthapali police station along with a scientific team reached the spot. They broke open the door only to find two bodies hanging.
The police brought down the bodies and sent them for post-mortem.
From their primary investigation, police suspected it to be a case of suicide.
A detailed investigation is underway, police said.
