Rourkela SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra on Thursday ordered a probe into the mysterious death of Assistant Collector Sushmita Minj. An officer of DSP rank will probe the case.

The Assistant Collector’s body was found under mysterious circumstances in the pond of the Centurion Park under Plant Site Police limits in Rourkela on September 19 evening. Her mother Selevstin Minj had then alleged that the senior officials including the Collector were putting huge work pressure on her. She had alleged that her daughter had been murdered.

Demanding a CBI probe, scores of tribal women including the family members of the Assistant Collector had gheraoed the ADM office and staged a demonstration on September 26 as the police were clueless even after seven days of her death.

On September 25, some Congress activists gheraoed the IIC's office alleging inaction.  Even though the police ruled out the murder angle as the post-mortem report confirmed drowning as the cause of death, the family members claimed there were some marks on Sushmita’s neck.
