Six members of a family, including three women, on Thursday attempted to immolate themselves outside Naveen Niwas, the official residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, in Bhubaneswar, alleging police inaction in the murder of a 16-year-old boy.

The family members of Daityaraj Nayak demanded the arrest of his murderers. Nayak, a native of Chandrasekharpur area in Bhubaneswar, was allegedly killed in 2022.

Accusing the police of doing nothing to arrest the culprits involved in the murder case, the bereaved family members staged demonstrations on several occasions, demanding justice.

Later, the police arrested one Ashok Jena and produced him in a court on August 15. However, the family members alleged that the police are doing nothing to arrest other miscreants involved in the case who are moving fearlessly and intimidating them.

“They murdered my 16-year-old son. The police have arrested only one accused. The others are threatening us. We are living in fear. We are demanding action against the rest of the accused. I have already taken the matter up with all the officers including the Police Commissioner. Since we didn’t get any results, today we have come here to seek justice from Naveen Patnaik,” said the deceased’s father.

In this regard, no reaction could be obtained from the police.
