Sundargarh district occupies a prominent position in the mineral map of Odisha and is rich in iron ore, limestone, and manganese. True to its name, this beautiful District of Sundargarh with about 43 percent of its total area under forest cover and numerous colorful tribes dotting its landscape and with abundant mining potential is bounded by Ranchi District of Jharkhand on the North; Raigarh District of Chhatisgarh on the west .Sundargarh is recognized as an industrial district of Odisha. Steel Plant, Fertilizer Plant, Cement factory, Ferro Vanadium Plant, Machine building factory, Glass and china clay factory and Spinning mills are some of the major industries of this District. The Steel Plant of Rourkela in this District has the first government sector plant built with foreign collaboration and was the first in India to use LD oxygen technology.
This is the fourth consecutive day that the State recorded a dip in positive cases from the highs of over 11K plus cases in the ongoing third wave of the pandemic.
The I &PR department on Saturday informed that out of the 8845 new Covid-19 cases, 972 were from the 0-18 years age group
The last time the State recorded below 10,000 cases was on January 12 when 8778 people had tested positive for the virus.
In a bid to investigate the matter, the apex environmental watchdog has set up a committee comprising officials of Central Pollution Control Board, Odisha State Pollution Control Board, State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) and the Collector of Sundargarh
The police said all the arrested wildlife criminals are residents of Sundargarh district.
Odisha so far has tested 26,479,398 samples, including 75,731 in the last 24 hours, for Covid-19 while the test positivity rate stood 13.5 per cent in the State.

The incident took place when a slab of the bridge over Ashrukhala canal was laid over the steel span. The span suddenly gave way causing the steel frame and span come down crashing
With this, the Covid-19 positive tally in the State has surged to 10,91,547 while a total of 10,47,783 people have recovered from the virus infection. The active cases have gone up to 35,242.
The warning has been issued for the districts of Kalahandi, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Bolangir.
Out of the 7,071 cases, 4,128 were detected in quarantine while 2,943 are local contact cases
The IMD said light to moderate rainfall activity is likely in Odisha between January 11 and January 14, 2022 due to anticipated western disturbance towards eastern India and strong moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal.
With this, active cases in Odisha stood at 20,560. So far, 10,46,617 Covid-19 infected have recovered in the State since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Bhadrak has so far registered 26,661 Covid-19 cases, including seven on Sunday, and 148 deaths. While the active cases stood at 46, as many as 26,463 have recovered from the disease till date.
Odisha so far has tested 2,59,63,037 samples, including 68, 970 in the last 24 hours, for Covid-19. The positivity rate in the State has now jumped to 3.92 per cent.
