MLA rescues women

Two women, aged about 27 and 45, were spotted walking along the College Road, one of the busiest roads in Sundargarh, with no clothes on. However, no passerby came forward to offer a saree or a piece of cloth to them, showing blatant degradation of humanity.

Sundargarh BJP MLA Kusum Tete, who was passing along the road, stopped, draped them with a shawl and rescued them. The incident has become the talk of the town here.

Like any other day, the College Road was busy on Friday. Trucks, buses, cars, bikers, cyclists and pedestrians were heading towards their destinations. Along the road, two women with no clothes on were also walking, perhaps without any destinations. They seemed to be tired and mentally stressed.

While moving along, all the passersby were giving them a look but then chose to move ahead. Call it apathy or disdain, none came forward to offer them a piece of cloth or a saree. The utter nonchalance was nothing but a testimony to how people have now been devoid of humanity and human ethics.

Just at that time, Sundargarh MLA Kusum Tete was going to attend a demonstration. Seeing them, she stopped near them, took out shawls kept in her car and offered to them. On being informed, a police team and a medical team reached the spot. They were then taken to ‘Astha Gruha’, a facility meant for mentally ill people.

It is yet to be ascertained who are they, from where they came, where they were going to, and who left them in such a state. They are even not able to say anything about them.

The police are investigating the incident, it was learnt.

“I have no words to narrate the incident. I saw them walking along the road, wearing no clothes. I immediately draped them with the shawls I was gifted at programmes. I wish no such incident happens anywhere.  Even if people happen to come across such incidents, they should come forward and offer them some clothes. They have also dignity,” said the MLA.
