Kartik Brata in Puri: Online registration to begin for 2,500 Habisyalis

Puri district administration has announced the start of online registration for 2,500 Habisyalis—devoted women observing the sacred Kartik Brata. Beginning September 19, the registration will be fully digital for the first time. Eligible widowed and married women can apply via the official portal. Special accommodations and transparent selection procedures aim to preserve the sanctity of this spiritual tradition.

Registration process for Habisyalis, widowed or married women devotees, observing Holy Kartik Brata in Puri pilgrimage town is to officially begin this year. The Puri district administration issued a notification on Tuesday, announcing that the online registration will commence from 10.00 AM on September 19 and will continue until the target capacity is reached.

Elaborate arrangements have been made for around 2,500 Habisyalis, with the requisite accommodations planned at Brundabati Nivas and three other designated locations across the town.

The Kartik Brata rituals will begin from October 7, and for the first time, the entire registration process will be conducted online, including submission of personal details and ID proof. Interested women can apply through the official portal: edistrict.odisha.gov.in

Eligibility criteria include:

•    Widowed women up to 70 years of age.
•    Married women aged 50 to 70 years.
•    Applicants must be physically and mentally fit.
•    Preference will be given to first-time applicants.

Puri district Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida has emphasised the importance of a seamless and transparent selection process to uphold the sanctity of the tradition.

“We have developed four accommodation centres for this year, including Brundabati Nivas near sacred Narendra Pond, Bagala Dharmasala, Municipality Kalyan Mandap, and Railway Tourist Complex,” Collector Parida said in a presser.

“Arrangements will be made for around 2,500 Habisyalis. Applications will be sanctioned on ‘first-come-first-serve’ basis,” the District Collector expressed.

“We have fixed certain criteria for selection, and the upper age limit will be 70 years for both widowed and married women devotees. However, priority will be given to the applicants who will apply for the first time,” the Collector added.
