Official source said there has been a substantial rise in the rainfall activities in the upper catchment areas of Hirakud. Chhattisgarh received heavy rainfall activities in the past 24 hours.

In a major breakthrough, Sambalpur police arrested 10 members of a dacoit gang. The police seized 480 gm of gold, Rs 5.12 lakh cash, 175 gm of silver, two four-wheelers, two tractors and four bikes.

At least 13 elderly individuals lost vision in one eye after cataract surgeries at a private nursing home in Angul. Following severe eye infections, they were treated at VIMSAR, Burla. The district administration has sealed the facility and ordered an investigation.

In Sambalpur, a woman and her daughter were critically injured after being stabbed by their neighbor over a land dispute. The victims, identified as Indu Das and Payal Das, are currently in critical condition at VIMSAR Hospital.

An MBA degree holder was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing for committing Rs 2 crore fraud through a false LED monitor advertising scheme. Bimalananda Bhuyan and his wife defrauded over 100 individuals before fleeing. The case unfolded after a victim's complaint led to an extensive investigation.

Amit Shah claimed BJP surpassed 310 seats in the first five phases of the Indian general elections, targeting over 400. In Odisha, he promised a government focused on local language and culture, criticizing Naveen Patnaik for neglecting these aspects and exploiting state resources. A meeting of the party was held at Sankha Bhawan where Amar Satpathy was absent. Jajpur MP, party’s district observer, and ticket aspirants like Rajnarayan Mohapatra and Janmejaya Lenka attended the meeting which was reportedly called to placate the dissent. 

Raseswari sent her resignation letter to BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik today. The development came after BJD announced Rohit Pujari as the party candidate from Sambalpur. 

The district administration appealed to the people to abide by the decision taken to ensure peace and harmony during the Hanuman Jayanti celebration.        

SP Mukesh Bhamoo said, "The accused had technical knowledge about bomb-making. He used a bicycle in the crime. We have seized his bicycle and cell phone. The phone will be sent to the forensic lab for data recovery. The incident was the outcome of personal rivalry.”

As per reports, two miscreants hurled a bomb from a flyover in the area. However, the reason behind the bombing was not ascertained immediately. Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area and a large crowd gathered near the spot. 

Police have seized 16,000 bottles of cough syrup which were being transported in a truck and an SUV in Sambalpur. Police rounded up 26 people who were smuggling the stuff. Besides, 12 cell phones and some cash have been seized from them.
