Safety Concerns

The incident has heightened concerns over safety, as the region is highly vulnerable to landslides during the monsoon season. Travellers have been advised to avoid the route until restoration work is completed.

“Rain is still continuing. Once it subsides, we will start full rescue and clearance operations. At present, only safety measures are being taken. We plan to build permanent structures such as retaining walls and guard walls to make the road secure. Immediate clearing work will be carried out to allow vehicle movement. A culvert has already been damaged by the heavy impact of boulders. One team is on site, and I will be taking my technical team as well to monitor the situation around the clock.” Prashant Kumar Sahu, SDO, NHAI Phulbani, said.

Restoration Work

The administration is expected to deploy heavy machinery soon to clear the debris and restore normal connectivity. Until then, people are urged to exercise caution. The landslide serves as a reminder of the urgent need for long-term slope protection measures in vulnerable ghats of Odisha.
