The mother of Nayagarh cameraman Manas Swain on Monday demanded that the probe into his son's death must be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) alleging involvement of some influential persons in the crime.

At least one person was killed and 20 others sustained injuries after a bus of the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) collided head-on with a truck loaded with LPG cylinders at Takara Ghati on Khordha-Bolangir National Highway Number-57 under Daspalla Police Station limits of Nayagarh district on Saturday morning.

Family members of the survivor were allegedly attacked and thrashed by the relatives of the accused when the former lodged police complaint

The Odisha Crime Branch on Wednesday took over the investigation of the sensational Nayagarh cameraman Manas Swain murder case, Crime Branch ADG Sanjeev Panda informed the media.

The sensational murder case of Nayagarh cameraman Manas Swain seems to be gradually opening the lid over a box-full of secrets -from the disappearance of the lensman to revelation about his murder and a web portal operator's alleged sleazy activities.

Subhakant, son of Prahallad Pradhan of Lathipada Nuasahi in Nayagarh district, had gone to Saudi Arabia in search of work in September last year.

The decomposed body of cameraman Manas Kumar Swain was exhumed from Badhipatna village under Ranpur police jurisdiction on March 12. 

Daytime temperature also remained above 36 degrees in 10 cities of the State in the last 24 hours. Titlagarh remained the hottest city with 38 degree Celsius on Sunday.

Locals intercepted the trio when they were distributing cash and liquor among the villagers at Mayurajhalia village and handed them over to police.

Rana was born on July 5, 1998, to Lakhmi Rana and Sanatan in Madhavpur village of the district. Born to a poor family, Rana grew up in a thatched house. His father worked as a priest at a nearby temple in the village while his mother was a homemaker.

With this, the cumulative Covid-19 positive tally in the State has surged to 12,59,405 while a total of 12,15,380 people have recovered from the infection so far.

The fresh fatalities pushed the virus death toll in the State to 8612. 

Nayak is said to have almost secured the post unofficially as uncontested since no other participant has filed nomination against him, sources informed, adding that, Gangadhar’s wife was also elected as a ward member in the 2017 rural elections.
