On Monday, the CB team visited Swain's house in Ranapur of Nayagarh where family members of the deceased identified the half-burnt footwear and earphone used by Swain, which were earlier recovered from Chandikhol. The team conducted search of Swain's house to find out the 'missing' memory chip, but returned empty-handed.

While the Odisha Crime Branch (CB) intensifies the interrogation of Sharmistha Rout and three others in the cameraman Manas Swain murder case, questions have been raised on the very efficacy of the investigation in the backdrop of allegations that the belated detection of the case could have erased the trail of many crucial evidence.
The Odisha Crime Branch on Wednesday took over the investigation of the sensational Nayagarh cameraman Manas Swain murder case, Crime Branch ADG Sanjeev Panda informed the media.
Parameswar Rout was nabbed from Vijayawada of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
“We are not under pressure. We are putting the best of our efforts to nab absconding accused Sarmistha Rout and her associate,” Bhadrak SP Charan Singh Meena said.
Cameraman Manas Swain was kidnapped from Bhadrak on February 6 and brought to Dayal Ashram, an old age home located on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar city, where he was assaulted physically. His body was recovered from Badhipatna hills in Rajsunakhala area of Nayagarh in March 12.
