The police on Tuesday arrested Parameswar Rout, brother of Sarmistha Rout in connection with the sensational kidnapping and murder of Nayagarh cameraman Manas Swain.

Sarmistha is said to be the prime accused in the murder case and is currently at large.

Parameswar was nabbed from Vijayawada in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

Sources said Parameswar had prepared the blueprint for the escape of his sister Sarmistha, the owner of Bhubaneswar-based Sampoorna web channel. However, it was learnt that she was not hiding in Vijayawada.

The police are yet to trace Sarmistha’s hideout. It was expected that the police might elicit information about the whereabouts of Sarmistha by interrogating her brother.

The Orissa High Court today rejected an anticipatory bail petition filed by Sarmistha apprehending her imminent arrest in the case.

Yesterday, Niranjan Sethi, a retired Odisha Information Service (OIS) officer and another accused were arrested for their complicity in the cameraman murder case.

Meanwhile, some big names cropped up in the murder case with the wife of deceased cameraman alleging involvement of Odisha Ministers Pratap Jena and Dibya Shankar Mishra in the murder of her husband.

She alleged that her husband was in possession of a memory chip containing some illegal activities of the Ministers and the prime accused Sarmistha and therefore, they hatched a plan to eliminate him fearing that their activities would come out.
