At least one person was killed and 20 others sustained injuries after a bus of the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) collided head-on with a truck loaded with LPG cylinders at Takara Ghati on Khordha-Bolangir National Highway Number-57 under Daspalla Police Station limits of Nayagarh district on Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as the driver of the truck while the driver of the bus, who has received critical injuries in the mishap, was rescued by the fire services and rushed to Daspalla Community Health Centre (CHC). However, he was shifted to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital after his health condition deteriorated. 

Similarly, two of the 20 injured passengers are stated to be critical and they have been shifted to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) while others are undergoing treatment at Daspalla CHC. 

As per reports, the OSRTC bus carrying 60 passengers was travelling from Kantamal in Boudh district to Jatani in Khordha district via Daspalla when the vehicle met with the accident this morning.

Following the mishap, teams from the fire services department and Daspalla Police rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The fire services personnel rescued the bus driver, who was stuck in the vehicle, with the help of the locals.

Eyewitnesses said both the vehicles were at high speed and the concerned drivers were trying to negotiate a sharp turn when they lost control over the wheels of their vehicles leading to the major mishap.

Both the bus and truck have suffered severe damages in the mishap, added reports.
