The mother of Nayagarh cameraman Manas Swain on Monday demanded that the probe into his son's death must be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) alleging involvement of some influential persons in the crime.

Jayanti Swain, mother of Manas said, “The details of the data in the memory chip in my son’s camera should be examined on a priority basis. There are other influential persons involved in this crime. And I think, only a CBI probe can unearth the mystery behind the memory chip and put all the hidden criminals to justice.”

“I demand death sentence for the killers of my son,” the bereaved mother said.

Meanwhile, the Odisha Crime Branch (CB) which is currently investigating the case, went to Manas’ home in Ranapur under Nayagarh district for investigation.

As per reports, the cops were there seeking help from his family members to identify Manas’ chappal and earphone they had recovered earlier.

The CB officials had a discussion with Manas’ brother and other family members in the village.

the three-day extended remand of prime accused Sarmistha Rout and other accused, which began on Monday, the CB conducted face-to-face grilling of Sarmistha and her associate Jhuna.

However, the main focus of interrogation has not been divulged yet by the Police, neither the memory chip mystery is seemed to have solved yet.

With the completion of the earlier five days’ remand period, the Crime Branch deposed Sarmistha Rout, Jhuna Bhoi, former OIS officer Niranjan Sethi and Ranjan Nayak alias Raj before the JMFC and prayed the court for five day remand of the accused.

It is believed that since several aspects of the case, including the cause behind the crime or the motive, are yet to be cracked, the agency had sought to take the accused on further remand.
