Khordha district has carved out of the former Puri District on 1st April, 1993. Despite repeated onslaughts from Maratha and Muslim cavalry, it managed to maintain the glory of its independence of royal fort till 1803. Therefore, the Royal Fort is spelt with reverence as “Khordhagada” and is referred as the “last independent fort” which remained free from the clutches of East India Company for a long period (from 1757, the Battle of Plassey after which the East India Company established company rule in Bengal till 1803).This resistance movement of Odias was recorded by the British historians as “Paik Rebellion”, which was in fact, the first Independence war of India. It originated in Khordha soil and spread to other parts of Odisha in 1817 much prior to the outbreak of the historical Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.Khordha is famous for Kora khai which is traditional Odia food offered to Lord Lingraj (Shiva) as Prasad.
Surprisingly, the beneficiaries were members of one family identified as -Bichitrananda Jena, his wife Ananya Routray, and their son Biswajit Routray.
Though it sounds unbelievable, in the absence of doctors for over months, pharmacists are attending to patients while sweepers are testing blood pressure and attendants are administering injections. Such a situation reportedly prevails in several healthcare centres in Khordha district.
“Under the influence of a prevailing low-level moist easterly from Bay of Bengal and middle and upper-tropospheric westerly trough, an increase in thunderstorm activity is very likely over districts of Odisha during next 4-5 days,” said IMD.
According to sources, Deuli CRCC, identified as Manoranjan Mishra, was apprehended by the villagers while he was allegedly selling textbooks during summer vacation.
Thatched houses and haystacks catching fire on their own have left even the firefighters in a dilemma.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several parts of Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorm activity in the next five days.
The issue came to the fore when posters and banners of Das were spotted in several villages under Khordha and Begunia on Utkala Dibasa (April 1). Though the posters did not have the organisation’s name on them, they featured pictures of Das prominently.
Alleging medical negligence, the family members of the deceased patient staged a sit-in at the hospital, demanding justice.

In another incident, six jawans of the ITBP sustained injuries in a road accident near Bolgad on Khordha-Bolangir NH-57. Sources said the accident occurred when the ITBP van, carrying the jawans, overturned after the driver lost control of the steering wheel.
As per reports, the women have been complaining about the illegal liquor shop since long. But the police have allegedly turned a blind eye to their plight.
In the wake of the firecracker mishap that took five lives, a meeting comprising the district Collector, Superintendent of Police, and IICs of all police stations was convened.
The blast that occurred during manufacturing of firecrackers ahead of Dola Purnima had left four including a father-son duo dead on the spot.
The incident occurred while the victims were reportedly making firecrackers inside the house ahead of the Dola Utsav. The reason behind the blast is yet to be ascertained.
