Khordha district has carved out of the former Puri District on 1st April, 1993. Despite repeated onslaughts from Maratha and Muslim cavalry, it managed to maintain the glory of its independence of royal fort till 1803. Therefore, the Royal Fort is spelt with reverence as “Khordhagada” and is referred as the “last independent fort” which remained free from the clutches of East India Company for a long period (from 1757, the Battle of Plassey after which the East India Company established company rule in Bengal till 1803).This resistance movement of Odias was recorded by the British historians as “Paik Rebellion”, which was in fact, the first Independence war of India. It originated in Khordha soil and spread to other parts of Odisha in 1817 much prior to the outbreak of the historical Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.Khordha is famous for Kora khai which is traditional Odia food offered to Lord Lingraj (Shiva) as Prasad.
In another incident, six jawans of the ITBP sustained injuries in a road accident near Bolgad on Khordha-Bolangir NH-57. Sources said the accident occurred when the ITBP van, carrying the jawans, overturned after the driver lost control of the steering wheel.
As per reports, the women have been complaining about the illegal liquor shop since long. But the police have allegedly turned a blind eye to their plight.
In the wake of the firecracker mishap that took five lives, a meeting comprising the district Collector, Superintendent of Police, and IICs of all police stations was convened.
The blast that occurred during manufacturing of firecrackers ahead of Dola Purnima had left four including a father-son duo dead on the spot.

The accused woman, identified as Mili, orchestrated the murder of her husband Manorajan Mohapatra with the help of her cousin brother and his associate.
As per sources, the body was stuffed in a blue trolley bag just about 10 metre into the forest from the road. It was suspected that the man was murdered by some miscreants and the body was packed in the trolley bag in the forest to hide the crime.
Khordha Town Police rushed to the spot and rescued the woman.
As per the IMD’s latest weather bulletin, light rain is likely to occur in several districts from January 17 (tomorrow). Apart from rain, dense fog conditions are also likely to occur at some parts of the state in the next couple of days as well.
