Once again raising questions on the safety measures near temples, unidentified miscreants looted ornaments from the sacred Maa Ugratara temple, which is one the main Shakti peethas in Odisha.

As per reports, the miscreants allegedly looted gold ornaments and other articles from the Ugratara temple at Tangi in Khordha district on Saturday night. The theft came to light after the priests arrived at the shrine on Sunday morning. The theft from Ugratara temple has raised suspicion as CCTV cameras have been installed at the shrine. It is suspected that the miscreants had disabled the CCTV cameras before decamping with ornaments.

The theft at the Shakti peetha has hurt the sentiments of the devotees here. Though the exact amount of ornaments stolen from the temple is still unclear, the donation box at the temple is said to be intact.

Meanwhile, police have started an investigation by cordoning off the temple premises. It is pertinent to mention here that the Odisha government had included the Ugratara temple for development under the 5T programme.
