Relief from heat wave likely as IMD issues yellow warning for thunderstorm and lightning

At a time when normal life across Odisha has been hit due to extreme heat wave conditions, the news that several parts of the state will experience thunderstorm activity is likely to provide some respite.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several parts of Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorm activity in the next five days.

The IMD has also issued a ‘yellow warning’ for thunderstorm with lightning in several parts of the state in the next few days.

Weather Forecast And Warning

Day 1 (Valid upto 0830 hrs IST of 18.04.2023)

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Kandhamal.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal. Heat wave condition is also likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Sambalpur.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 18.04.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 19.04.2023)

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kandhamal. Heat wave condition is likely at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Sambalpur.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 19.04.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 20.04.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 20.04.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 21.04.2023)

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.

Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 21.04.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 22.04.2023)

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khordha and Puri.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khordha and Puri.
