In 1st April, 1993 Kendrapara District was created form the mother District Cuttack. The District covers an area of 2, 644 sq km. It has the second largest mangrove ecosystem in the country and home to saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) the largest Indian Lizard at Bhitarkanika National Park.
