Five individuals died from lightning strikes in Odisha's Bargarh and Balangir districts, with three fatalities under a tree and two in a paddy field. The Chief Minister announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the victims' families and ensured free treatment for the injured.
Heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds and lightning was reported in different parts of Bhubaneswar in the afternoon today.
As per the prediction by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the situation is likely to continue for the next four to five days across the State.
"Gradual rise in maximum temperature (Day Temperature) by 4-6°C during next 4-5 days at many places over the districts of Odisha," said IMD.
As per IMD, there is a possibility of a considerable drop in the maximum or the day temperature in Odisha in the next 24 hours.
The 'Mahakal Lok' corridor project, worth Rs 856 crore (total expenditure of two phase project) was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 11, 2022.
Odisha is likely to witness thunderstorm activities under impact of Nor'wester from today. The India Meteorological Department has issued warning on the inclement weather for several districts of the state till March 31. Thunderstorm, rainfall, lightning and gusty wind may be experienced during this period.
Meanwhile, IMD has issued yellow warnings for 17 districts that are expected to experience heavy rain and thunderstorm activities today.
Following sweltering heat over the last few days, different places in North, West and South Odisha witnessed intense to moderate thunderstorm activity.
The IMD on Tuesday issued a yellow warning for thunderstorm and lightning in several parts of Odisha.
Titilagarh on Friday recorded the highest maximum temperature of 45 degrees. Apart from Titlagarh, Bolangir district recorded maximum temperature of 44.9, Boudh 44.5, Sambalpur 44.4, Sonepur 44.3 and Jharsuguda recorded 44.2 degree Celisus yesterday.
