  • Odisha's daily cases witness a surge again

  • Khordha, Sundergarh remain worst affected distrcits

Bhubaneswar : After witnessing a steady decline in number of daily covid-19 cases,  Odisha once again registered an upswing in the infection figures with 10982 people testing positive for the virus in last 24 hours,  causing significant worry for the State which is currently under lockdown to check rising cases.

The jump in fresh cases pushed the State's cumulative caseload to 56,5648.

Similarly, total number of deaths climbed to 2232 with 17 fresh fatalities reported in last 24 hours. 

Khordha and Angul reported maximum three deaths each while two fatalities have been reported each from Kalahandi, Puri and Sundergarh.  Balasore, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Ganjam and Rayagada district witnessed one death each in last 24 hours.

Khordha, of which State Capital Bhubaneswar is a part, continues to top the chart with maximum 1593 new infections. Sundergarh district,  being the second worst hit region, registered 964 cases followed by cuttack at 885 cases. At the fourth spot,  Angul posted 539 cases during the period. 

Other districts recording more than 400 cases are Sambalpur (454), Bargarh (431),  Bolangir (426). As many as 389 cases have been detected from Puri district, 378 from Nuapada, 335 from Nabarangpur, 370 from Kalahandi, 380 from Jharsuguda,  303 from Balasore and 349 from Jajpur district. 

While only one district,  Malkangiri recorded below 100 cases. 

Nayagarh,  Koraput,  Kendrapada, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Ganjam,  Gajapati,  Boudh reported  less than 200 cases.
