  • Khordha, Sundergarh, Cuttack top the chart in single-day spike

Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Saturday witnessed a concerning figure in the single-day covid cases with 11, 805 more people testing positive for the contagious disease in last 24 hours taking the cumulative virus infection count to 6,00,492.

Similarly, State’s overall fatalities went up to 2294 with 21 more patients succumbing to the deadly virus in last 24 hours.

 Khordha district reported maximum four deaths followed by Angul which saw three fatalities in last 24 hours. Similarly, two deaths have been reported each from Kalahandi, Kendrapara, Puri, Rayagada and Sundergarh districts. 

 One patient succumbed to the virus each in Boudh, Gajapati, Koraput and Nupapada districts.

Of the new positive cases, 6,611 have been detected from quarantine centers while 5,194 are local infections.

As many as 9,329 patients recovered during the period taking the total recoveries to 491674 in the State. With new recoveries, the State’s active cases stood at 106471.

Khordha district has reported maximum 1,414 new cases out of which a bulk of infections have been reported from Capital city Bhubaneswar.

 Sundergarh and Cuttack continue to be the second and third worst-hit districts with 1,209 and 1,197 fresh cases detected in last 24 hours.

Angul district with 668 cases remained next to Cuttack while Sambalpur turned the next severely affected region with 553 fresh infections.

Bargarh district witnessed 421 new cases while 392 fresh infections have been detected from Jajpur, 338 from Puri, 374 from Mayurbhanj, 377 from Kalahandi, 327 from Jharsuguda, 331 from Ganjam, 358 from Bolangir and 307 from Nuapada district.
Nayagarh and Dhenkanal districts registered 280 fresh positive cases each.

As many as 274 more people tested positive in Jagatsinghpur district while 246 new cases have been detected from Boudh and 239 from Nabarangpur. 

Malkangiri and Kandhamal continue to remain in the bottom of the row registering below 100 cases. Both the districts reported 94 and 83 new infections respectively during the period.

As many as 284 cases were traced from State pool.
