Ganjam is the largest district of Odisha in terms of population. The district is broadly divided into two divisions, the Coastal plain area in the east and hill and table lands in the west. The Eastern Ghats run along the western side of the District. Ganjam district is best known for its stunning sea beach and a deep sea port at Gopalpur. Ganjam is also famous for a perennial hot spring of medicinal sulfuric water located at Taptapani .This district has world’s largest breeding ground of Olive Ridley sea turtles at Rushikulya beach where Lakhs of endangered Olive Ridley turtles flocked the Rushikulya river mouth for their annual mass nesting. Ganjam’s Achar (Pickles) and Papad is very popular. These two give away such a wonderful flavor to the mouth that it is liked by the folks of Odisha at any and every point of time.

The Vigilance sleuths apprehended three Odisha government officials on bribery charges. Jayashree Pattnaik, CDPO of Kutra in Sundargarh, was caught accepting Rs 2,000 as the first installment of a demanded Rs 5,000 bribe from an Anganwadi worker. The death toll in the Chikiti hooch tragedy in Ganjam district has risen to five, with Pradeep Behera, a 30-year-old from Jenapur, succumbing at MKCG Medical College and Hospital. In response to the deaths of two persons from Chikiti area in Ganjam district due to spurious liquor, the Excise department and police intensified crackdowns on illegal liquor dens across Odisha. The Excise Department busted a den on Balisira hills, seizing 4,500 litres of fermented and 100 litres of country liquor. A man from Bira Narayanpur was arrested for smuggling 80 litres of country liquor. Another bust in Arakhakuda village led to the seizure of 4,000 litres of country and fermented liquor. Earlier, three illegal units were bulldozed at Salia Sahi in Bhubaneswar.
A human skull and bones were discovered in a forest near Brundabanpur village, Padmapur panchayat, Ganjam district. Villagers informed the police after spotting the remains along with a bicycle nearby. Police have initiated an investigation, considering murder, suicide, and witchcraft angles. Forensic experts will assist in solving the mystery.
The Odisha government plans to establish 82 new primary agriculture cooperative societies (PACS) and 21 primary milk cooperative societies in Ganjam district, as well as upgrade five PACS to multi-purpose societies. This decision was made at the Ganjam district cooperative development committee meeting chaired by District Collector Dibyajyoti Parida.
