Unni Mukundan dropped from Marco sequel? Makers officially register title ‘Lord Marco’
Released in 2024, Marco became an instant box office sensation, earning Rs 100 crore worldwide. Starring Unni Mukundan in the lead role, the film generated widespread debate for its graphic violence, with many viewers reportedly shocked by the extreme gore, leading some to label it India’s most violent film ever. Amidst the film’s massive success, fans eagerly anticipated a sequel.
However, Unni Mukundan had previously decided to drop plans for continuing the Marco series. Now, it appears that the makers have begun work on the sequel, officially titled Lord Marco, without Unni Mukundan in the lead role.
Excitement around the franchise escalated this week when trade analyst AB George shared on X (formerly Twitter) a glimpse of official documents confirming a sequel. The next chapter is registered under the title Lord Marco by Cubes Entertainment, the production house behind the original film.
Director Haneef Adeni and Producer Shareef Muhammed have registered the title '#LordMarco' at the Film Chamber. #UnniMukundan is not part of the project. Who do you think will lead in #Marco2? Any guesses? pic.twitter.com/va4OpaACf8

Interestingly, while director Haneef Adeni’s name appeared on the official papers, there was no mention of Unni Mukundan. This aligns with the actor’s previous statements, where he had expressed his decision to step away from a sequel. In June, while sharing a weight-loss transformation video, Unni responded to a fan query about Marco 2: "Bro, apologies but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I’ll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thanks for all the love and positivity. Cheers."
Directed by Haneef Adeni and produced by Shareef Muhammed under the Cubes Entertainments banner, Marco was a gripping revenge saga. The film also featured Siddique, Jagadish, Abhimanyu S Thilakan, and Kabir Duhan Singh, adding depth and intensity to the high-octane storyline.
While fans may miss him in Lord Marco, Unni Mukundan has exciting projects ahead. On the same day as the sequel registration news, it was revealed that he will play the lead in Maa Vande, a biopic chronicling the life journey of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
