Dhenkanal District is centrally located on the Geo-Political map of Odisha. It is commonly believed that it owes its name to a Savara chief named ‘DHENKA’ who formerly ruled over in this tract. This district is best known for Joranda, famous as the religious headquarters of Mahima Dharma, Joranda houses the Samadhi of Mahima Gosain, the preacher and propounder of the Mahima Cult. Sptasajya and Kapilash are another place of attraction in the district. As far as special cuisine is concern Dhenkanal Bora is very tasty.
The two Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists are Debashis Mahapatra of Berhampur in Ganjam district and Sarat Kumar Das, who is a native of Govindpur village under Kamakhyanagar sub-division in Dhenkanal district and has been living in Talcher area of Angul district.

Fumed over the power outage, the BJP workers on Monday held a protest at the Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) office in Dhenkanal.

After being tipped off about illegal soil lifting, the Tehsildar went to the spot near Patharkhamba village under Kamakhyanagar Police limits. He then clicked some photos of an earth-moving machine being used to lift soil.
The deceased has been identified as Akshay Panda while the injured Lipu is undergoing treatment at the hospital. Police have detained two suspects and further investigation in connection with the case is underway.
