Miscreants on Friday attacked the Tehsildar of Parjang block in Dhenkanal district during a raid on illegal quarrying activities in the area. Shreyal Subhra Patel, the Tehsildar along with the RI and a junior clerk suffered injuries in the attack.

After being tipped off about illegal soil lifting, the Tehsildar went to the spot near Patharkhamba village under Kamakhyanagar Police limits. He then clicked some photos of an earth-moving machine being used to lift soil.

However, some miscreants wielding twigs rushed toward him and started attacking him.

“When I reached there I found a JCB machine was there. I clicked some photographs. Later, some miscreants carrying twigs came toward me and started attacking me. Then they attempted to crush me along with my car but I managed to escape,” the Tehsildar said.

The miscreants didn’t even spare Parjang Revenue Inspector, Alok Lenka and a junior clerk of the Tehsil office, Premananda Behera, who tried to intervene.

“When Premananda Behera and I reached at the spot, we saw eight to ten people attacking the Tehsildar. They even attempted to kill him by running the JCB over his car. When we intervened, they didn’t even spare us,” said Parjang RI, Alok Lenka.

Acting on the complaint, Kamakhyanagar Police has registered a case and launched a probe.
