A class-six student of Kankadahada Upper Primary School in Dhenkanal’s Kamakhyanagar was seriously injured after his teacher allegedly punched him in the chest in the school.

Following the hit, the student reportedly collapsed on the floor. His parents were called and asked to take him back.

He was initially rushed to the Kankadahada hospital and then shifted to Kamakhyanagar medical as his situation deteriorated.

Speaking about the incident, the mother of the student, Bharati Mahanta said, “Sir called 15 minutes after I dropped my child in the school and said to take him back. When I arrived at the school I saw my son in a state of shock and was crying incessantly.”

“Though I exactly do not know why the teacher punched him, I heard that she punched him on his chest in the prayer class while inspecting fingernails of the students,” she alleged.

“Upon being informed that a teacher has hit my grandson, I rushed to the Kankadahada hospital. Later the doctor referred him to Kamakhyanagar hospital, so we brought him here,” said the student’s grandfather Bairagi Mahanta.

Asked about the allegations, Kankadahada Block Education Officer (BEO) Sagar Tudu said, “We are currently conducting an inquiry into this. School premises are a punishment-free zone. So such kind of behaviour is not acceptable at all.”

Tudu assured to take appropriate action if the allegations are proven true.
