Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday announced a financial package of Rs 33.03 crore for farmers in Puri district under its flagship Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA) initiative. As per information shared by the State I&PR Department, around 1651361 small and marginal farmers of the coastal district will get the benefit of this financial assistance for the Rabi season 2021-22. Under the programme, each beneficiary will get Rs 2000 per month as KALIA financial assistance which will be sent directly to their bank accounts by the government. Earlier on September 11, Chief Minister Patnaik had cleared a sum of Rs 742.58 crore for as many as 3712941 farmers across the state under the KALIA scheme however, the farmers in Puri were left out from the scheme due to model code of conduct clamped by the administration in view of Pipili Byelection.

Odisha reported the first pre-Diwali mishap this year when three members of a family, including a one-and-half year-old baby, were injured in an explosion while making firecrackers at Baneswarpada village under Tigiria block in Cuttack on Wednesday.
As per reports, the injured have been rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack in critical condition.
Incidentally, the mishap occurred a couple of days after the Orissa High Court gave a green signal for use and sale of green firecrackers this Diwali following the Odisha government’s agreement over the issue.
